“After Cemican enjoyed great popularity at Wacken Open Air in the summer, their colleagues Cabrakaän are now drawing attention to themselves with their new album and an exciting documentary. Aztec-influenced metal seems to be the new big thing in folk metal.”

Cabrakaän are a symphonic folk metal band hailing from Mexico City and currently based in Calgary, Canada.
CABRAKAÄN (kab-ra-kahn): Mexican-Canadian symphonic folk metallers Cabrakaän are breaking barriers and forging new genre-bending paths in the international metal scene. Founded in 2011, drummer Marko Cipäktli and classically trained soprano vocalist Pat Cuikani sought to fuse the pre-hispanic and rich folkloric elements of Mexican folk music with heavy metal. Drawing on instruments, melodies, mythologies, and oral histories of their ancestral Mexica (pronounced “mesh-eek-ah“) people, the band tells powerful, evocative stories that transcend language and culture. Cabrakaän have released two EPs: Songs from Anahuac (2013) and Cem Anahuac My Home (2019).
Their upcoming LP, Aztlán, is their most ambitious release to date and will be available on streaming platforms everywhere on November 17th, 2023.
